Meet Stephanie

Democratic Candidate for state representative and Bloomfield Township Trustee, Stephanie Fakih is an experienced criminal defense attorney and owns her own law firm - Rights First Law, P.C. in Birmingham. Stephanie has a passion for helping people and is committed to protecting the rights of her clients and upholding the promises of the U.S. Constitution.

In November 2020, Stephanie was elected by her fellow neighbors to the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees.

As Trustee, Stephanie was a vocal advocate for the return of the Township’s Electronic and Household Hazardous Waste events, both of which have been reinstated for Township residents. These events keep hazardous waste out of landfills and raises awareness about the proper disposal of certain items.

Stephanie also serves on the Bloomfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals and the Bloomfield Youth Assistance Board. She was recently accepted into the Michigan Infrastructure Commission Asset Management Champion Program and is a member of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) 2022 Water Infrastructure Task Force.

As Trustee Stephanie also worked to amend Township ordinances to simplify them and lower costs to the Township and Township residents.

In the 1980s, Stephanie’s parents immigrated to the United States.

Stephanie was born in Saginaw and moved to Bloomfield Township with her family at a young age. Stephanie attended Birmingham Public Schools and then attended Cranbrook Kingswood where she graduated high school. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and received her Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law in New York City. Stephanie is licensed to practice law in California and Michigan state courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Throughout her life, Stephanie has been called to serve her community. As an attorney, she volunteered to help people expunge their criminal records, giving them a second chance at finding housing and secure employment. Making sure people are able to get back to work and contribute to society is a key factor in avoiding recidivism and keeping people out of the criminal system.

Stephanie also believes in the value of mentoring our youth, the future of our country.

Stephanie serves as a mentor to students interested in legal careers and careers in government. She has hosted high school students for summer internships at her law firm and participates in the University of Michigan LSA Mentorship program where she mentors students interested in law and government.

Stephanie also regularly serves as a mock trial judge for law school trial competitions and also with the Michigan Center for Civic Education which hosts mock trial competitions for Michigan high school students. These mock trial competitions help shape the future generation of lawyers and Stephanie feels privileged to contribute to their learning through volunteering.

Stephanie lives in Bloomfield Township and is a MSU-Extension Master Gardener Trainee. Stephanie will volunteer in community gardens and workshops this summer to earn the Master Gardener status. Stephanie is also a member of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.
